Writer
I started writing in high school. I’m dyslexic and had always struggled with the written word. In someways, words felt like the bane of my existence and I felt that if I could master them, I could do anything I wanted. That didn’t turn out to be true, but it’s been a good time all the same.
I love writing because I love people. Writing is a way for me to try to understand people and see how they relate to each other and to me. Murders and nuns alike, I believe we are more alike than we are different.
Partly I got into screenplay writing because I worship movies, partly I got into it because I love writing anything. Ultimately, screenplays of the kind I write are driven by the things people say more than the things they do. The dialogue must serve as everything – plot, character, and even a part of setting.
One challenge of writing a screenplay that directly related to for what it’s worth is the challenge of writing something that can actually be produced. A novel or short story is self-contained, but a good screenplay is one that doesn’t just read well, but can actually be made.
I relate most to Bernie, because I’m tired of people’s bullshit.
